Get Entertained: How To Find Great Live Music
There are few things more satisfying than listening to a great local band play live, but many people bemoan the fact that they can’t find any great live performances in their area. Maybe everything they know about music comes from the radio and TV, and all they know is what’s popular across the nation. Maybe they really do live relatively sheltered lives in small communities that simply have no local music acts. For whatever reason, finding really great live music in your hometown can be difficult. It is not, however, totally impossible. There are sure to be some great bands and artists out there who are playing near you soon; you just need to know how to find them.
If you find yourself really frustrated with a lack of quality music on the radio and want to hear something new, here are a few tips that can help you find some great live performances.
- Talk to your friends. Not all of your friends will be exactly up to speed on the local music scene, but chances are that they might know something about a band playing near you. Ask around your social circle and see if they know about any local music acts that are worth listening to. Chances are that someone will know, especially if you have friends in the music scene or who might be in schools to study audio production.
- Find concert venues near you. A great way to find live music is to search for venues near you that regularly have live music. Local bars and restaurants can play host to local acts, as can larger clubs. Most places that have live music advertise the fact, so they won’t be that hard to find. Once again, you probably have at least a few friends who know about venues. Failing that, you can take a look yourself. Once you find a venue, give them a call or check out their website if there is one and see for yourself what bands will be playing and when.
- Use the Internet. The Internet is full of information on practically every topic imaginable, and live local music is no different. There are plenty of online databases such as Thrillcall.com that will provide you with information on what bands are playing near you. Just enter the name of your city or favorite venue to find out about any upcoming performances. Once you find some local bands that you like, you can also see if they have a website or a Facebook page that can tell you about upcoming performances.
No matter where you are, chances are that there are plenty of opportunities to hear great live music, even if you don’t realize it. Of course, if you really want to know more about music of all kinds, you may want to consider seeking a degree in music. You may just learn how to write music or be part of a great band yourself.
